African thoughts

So, let me just start with how flippin cold it is here in MI.... yeah, especially today where it's eh.. 0 or below with wind chill!... eeks!

Ok, on to actual thoughts about Africa now.. First, way beautiful (and warm). Although, Swaziland looks more like a it belongs in Ireland, or in a Lord of the Rings movie. There were several times that it was very surreal looking, and a couple times I thought it just looked fake... lol try telling God that...

It was interesting because I wasn't really sure what to expect out of this trip, and I really had no idea how I'd respond to being in Africa...After a while of thinking about it I think I've finally realized a few things...

I was not culturally shocked while I was there. And the reason I think this is, is because I saw a lot of the poverty (and in some ways worse) when I went to Guatemala last year... However, there is a WHOLE lot more orphans in Swaziland than I'd seen anywhere else.. The thing that is hard to totally grasp is the concept that over half of the kids have lost either one or both parents... and they live with either other kids, grandparents, aunt and uncles.. or neighbors. It's very sad.

I really enjoyed playing with the kids, and laughing with them and getting them to make faces that I would take pictures of, then show them and laugh with them some more :)

I LOVED the safari we went on too.. lots of fun:)

And of course there is a lot more to tell, but that will have to wait :)

People are dumb. I really find it aggravating when people say things like "they wouldn't treat me that way, they only do it to them cause of the circumstance"... no I'm pretty sure people are people.. if they show a certain side of themselves in any given situation, that part of them didn't come out of no where... Stop going after people thinking you can change them, or they will be different with you, or they won't do the things to you that they're doing to their current bf/gf or ex. Retarded people.

ps. I'm so excited about Africa. :)

January

So, my mom made a statement today that everything I say is leaning towards "before I got to Africa".... or "after I get back from Africa..."... and I just laughed and pointed out when you're planning on being somewhere for 2 weeks in the middle of a month you sorta have to plan everything either before or after Africa.

I GET TO GO TO AFRICA FOR 2 WEEKS!!!!..

I spent New Years eve weekend in Chicago with Ash and Megan... it was AWESOME.. seriously one of the best weekends. We did all kindsa things, and spent New Years Eve in down town Chicago.. for like 13 hours!.. I got wet up to my knees from all the slush. We have great stories from the whole day!

I got my hair cut yesterday. Chopped like 8 inches off.. I like it as a change of pace :)

Christmas-ish update

So, someone pointed out to me that it has been a while since I've updated.. sorry :)

Things have been good.. crazy but good. I finally feel like I can smile and say "I am sooo good" and truly mean it. My Jesus is amazing. My friends are amazing. And my family is amazing...

My friend Ash had her wisdom teeth out the same day as her uncle's visitation.. it was a long rough and tiring day, but she did wonderful (said some hysterical things) and I got to take care of her.

I made cinnamon rolls for everyone at work (and took them to 4 locations) on Friday because I figured... if I didn't want to work, no one else wanted to work either.. and food always makes that better!.. Not to mention I want to be on everyone's good side cause they will work harder and better for me first before anyone else.. muhahaha.. lol it's sad, but true though.

I got the cutest "survival kit" from our teen leaders today at church. It was really cute :)

I STINKIN LOVE CHRISTMAS. Mainly because I feel like everyone's happier (which I've avoided Christmas shopping at stores for 2 Christmas's now.. which is really the way to keep the holiday cheer!). I Love the lights, I love the laughter, and the parties, and the excitement of the little things.. BUT.. I eat way way way too much junk!

I went back to the martial arts school last week and I ended up helping run the seminar!.. it was really weird how it worked out. I saw one of the instructors as a guy I went to church with, so when he got a moment I went up and talked to him.. apparently he'd been telling the head instructor Kevin about my dad (who's a flippin amazing Martial Artist). And so we talked for a while, and Kevin asked if I had my "canes" with me I laughed and said they were in the car.. (yes I do keep my martial arts sticks with me..:) so, we did the seminar together. He's not amazing, he is very traditional in the things he was teaching.. so a lot of it was not super effective. BUT, I can tell that's not his first style either cause he made comments to the students (after introducing me as Kristy, Kristal, and Kristen before Krista) that I would probably be able to teach him some things. So, through it all I chose not to correct him, but to offer the students a slightly... tweaked way to do the techniques. At the end Kevin seemed fairly excited about possibly getting to train and practice with another black belt (which is always a welcomed thing among us)... and also about having a girl instructor to bring in the more adult crowd (cause women tend to be very intimidated by a guy instructor, and try avoiding doing certain techniques with them). So, I don't know where it will go, but I'm excited about it!

I'm getting more and more excited about going to Africa. I bought a sweet camera this week so I will be able to take great pictures of the safari!!.. :)

Ok, that's all for now. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!

So, How do you know your out of shape?... even when you've lost 10lbs...When the cold comes and your joints ache like crazy.. and they come out of place more than usual... Yup, that's how you know you need to return to physical activity that makes you sore...

I decided to try Curves cause I got a free month from Ash's mom... But, I don't think it does enough for me. I was there for 45 minutes and didn't even feel it the next day. I like the concept, and I like the ladies, but I think I need a much more intense work out. Granted it is slightly "what you make of it."  But, I found a gym in the area that ALSO has martial arts classes.. I stopped in today and talked to one of the guys that works there, and he is also the one who runs the martial arts classes.. I tried to play down my training, but did tell him I'd been doing it 15 years, and when he asked what color I got to.. I didn't want to lie, so I told him Black... and come to find out he knows one of my old instructors, knew all about the school getting sold, and knows someone I used to train with. It was kinda exciting. I would really like to go check out a  couple classes and see if that is where I can start training again.. Cause that would be saweet! :)

Ok, that's all.
